Master Instructor Jon Olsen is a 6th degree (Renshi Rokudan) Black Belt in Uechi-Ryu Karate Do and holds a Shihan Master Instructor teaching certificate. He has studied with Don Joyner Sensei, James Thompson Sensei and William Keith Sensei.

He has been certified as a Level 2 Jeet Kune Do instructor with Mark Stewart and the IJKD.

Other martial arts studied include judo & aikido.

He has been teaching Uechi-Ryu  in Grand Rapids, MI for 20 years.

East West Karate began in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the summer of 1991 and is dedicated to passing on the arts of Uechi-Ryu and JKD and in the spirit of giving back for all that we have been privileged  to learn.

Our goal is to help students of the martial arts, develop themselves both in the physical and mental aspects of the art.
